Luna from Florida is like other 4-year-olds, full of joy. But she was born with a rare skin condition, congenital melanocytic nevus, affecting her and her family.
Her mom, Carol Fenner, was shocked at her 2019 birth. A dark patch on the baby’s face left her stunned. Luna had a black mark like a Batman mask.
“I’m used to it now, but then, it was a shock,” Carol said in 2019.
No wonder Carol was taken aback. Joy turned to worry fast. The last ultrasound showed nothing odd.
Doctors were unsure of the mark for four days. Luna was in the hospital six days for tests.
After research, doctors said the birthmark could up cancer risk. They advised surgeries.
Carol wanted to remove the “Batman mask.” But it needed at least six complex surgeries, costing about $40,000 each.
