Jennifer Lopez is a true multi-talent: singer, dancer, actress, and entrepreneur. But under that confident front fans love, she recently got real about the self-doubt and harsh criticism she faced early in her career.
At a public event with Full Picture CEO Desiree Gruber, Lopez said, “You know, being in this business has made me strong. I don’t let others’ opinions mess with how I see myself.” But it took her a long time to get there, she added.
Lopez’s career skyrocketed with her role in Selena and debut album On the 6. Still, she shared that despite early wins, the nitpicking about her skills made her question herself. “I was killing it,” she remembered. “Then everyone was like, ‘She can’t sing, she can’t dance, she can’t act, she’s just a pretty face or has a big butt,’ and I started thinking, ‘Maybe they’re right.’”
