During its short run, the “Black Dot Campaign” helped 49 women escape abusive relationships, according to an Independent report. But critics argued that if abusers caught on, it could make things worse for victims.
In 2015, the campaign’s anonymous creator told ITV News: “I endured emotional, physical, and sexual abuse for five years. It was a terrifying and isolating experience.”
“I had chances to reach out, but I didn’t. I wished someone would’ve noticed if I’d marked myself. That’s where the Black Dot idea came from.”
