Cancer is a big threat to many, but people can take smart steps to lower the risks. Michelle Patidar, a nutrition and cancer recovery coach in Chicago, shared on Instagram how she’s still fighting cancer even after surviving it, and the steps she’s taken.
In a social media video, Patidar listed “things you’ll never find in my kitchen after being diagnosed with cancer at 32”. After cancer treatments, she did a “total kitchen overhaul”, but made changes slowly, replacing things with non – toxic versions as they ran out.
Here are the items she got rid of and their replacements:
- Refined oil → extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil, ghee, grass – fed butter.
- Nonstick cookware → stainless steel and cast – iron cookware.
- Aluminum foil → non – bleached parchment paper.
- Plastic containers and sandwich bags → glass containers and paper bags.
- Scented candles → essential oils.
- Plastic water bottles → glass and stainless steel.
- Plastic cutting boards → wood cutting boards.
- Ultra – processed foods → whole foods and snacks without added sugars, food dyes, and harmful preservatives.
- Toxic kitchen cleaning supplies → non – toxic cleaning products.
Patidar, a seven – year cancer survivor, said she understands the importance of a holistic view of health. Nutrition and exercise are important, but so are other factors like our environment and daily – used products. Even small things like plastic water bottles can affect our health. Making these changes, like using safer cookware, has reduced her exposure to harmful chemicals. Focusing on quality fats and oils instead of processed foods helps lower chronic inflammation, which is crucial for cancer prevention and recovery. Replacing candles with essential oils has improved indoor air quality. She said even one change from the list can boost overall health and help prevent cancer.
